New England Match Best Winning Streak From Tom Brady Era with Triumph Against New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has scored five TDs this season
New England equaled their best victory streak from the Tom Brady era as they defeated AFC East rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three TDs as the New England squad secured an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since star signal-caller Tom Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in the 2019 season
Quarterback Drake Maye accumulated 281 yards and a TD, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
The win increases the New England's lead at the top of the AFC East as they moved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The opposing team had taken the lead at their home field with QB Fields running in a five-yard touchdown to finish the Jets' opening drive
But the New England responded in the second period as Henderson ran in two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the back of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"That was a big time for him rising to the challenge, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of Henderson. "He wants to be excellent."
Fields threw to John Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to close the gap for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a two field goals in the final period as the home side sealed the victory
